Millennium Fellowship Project: Water for life Initiative (WFLI)

Project Description: Water for Life Initiative
Project Overview
The Water for Life Initiative is a comprehensive project aimed at addressing the critical issue of water scarcity and poor water quality in University of Nigeria Enugu Campus hostel. By providing sustainable access to clean water, we seek to improve public health, enhance sanitation, and empower communities.
Project Goals
* Increase Access to Clean Water: Construct and rehabilitate water sources, such as boreholes, wells, and rainwater harvesting systems.
* Improve Water Quality: Implement water treatment and purification techniques to ensure safe drinking water.
* Promote Hygiene and Sanitation: Conduct awareness campaigns and provide sanitation facilities to reduce waterborne diseases.
* Empower Communities: Train community members on water management, hygiene practices, and sustainable water use.
Project Activities
* Needs Assessment: Conduct a thorough assessment of the target community's water needs, including water availability, quality, and usage patterns.
* Infrastructure Development: Construct or rehabilitate water sources, such as boreholes, wells, and rainwater harvesting systems.
* Water Treatment and Purification: Install water treatment plants or provide water purification tablets to ensure safe drinking water.
* Hygiene and Sanitation Promotion: Organize awareness campaigns on hygiene practices, sanitation, and water conservation.
* Community Training and Capacity Building: Train community members on water management, operation and maintenance of water facilities, and basic hygiene practices.
* Monitoring and Evaluation: Establish a robust monitoring and evaluation system to track project progress, measure impact, and make necessary adjustments.
Expected Outcomes

About the Millennium Fellow

Doris Chidiogo Okechukwu is a 200 level law student at the University of Nigeria Enugu Campus and was born in Enugu state. While growing up, Doris observed the inequality metted out on children and women, this informed her choice of course of study. She hopes to acquire all the necessary skills required to combat this problem in the nearest future.
Doris is a young woman who is compassionate, enthusiastic and passionate about creating change and improving lives. As a leader, she has successfully educated her peers and other young people in her community on the evils of child abuse and gender inequality through campaigns and webinars. She is passionate about community development and self growth.
With unwavering dedication, she is eager to embark on this transformative joirner and create lasting impact.
