Millennium Fellowship Project: Kidney Health Awareness Scheme

My project - Kidney Health Awareness is designed to educate students of the university of Nigeria Enugu Campus and surrounding members of the public in Enugu state, Nigeria about the need to protect and maintain a healthy kidney. In Enugu state, there have been too many reports of death due to Kidney diseases and failure, with the option of a transplant meant for the rich only. I have been affected personally, losing my dearest uncle in 2023. This experience triggered my thoughts towards a more preventive measure, rather than treatment. In 2023, Kidney Health Awareness conducted 4 major outreaches in 3 main markets in Enugu - Ogige market, Ogbete market and Gariki market. In all the events, we have educated the general public about the causes, symptoms and management of kidney conditions. This is in addition to simple lifestyle practices such as drinking water and routine kidney function tests. Through the Millennium Fellowship, I plan to promote our activities on social media, organizing regular discussion with seasoned speakers about kidney maintenance and management, while dispelling foundational misconceptions. In the space of 1 year, I plan to reach the remaining 8 major markets and 3 suburb markets in Enugu environs.
