Millennium Fellowship Project: Waste To Wealth
This project aims to tackle the hazardous effects of waste plastic by converting it into composite floor and wall tiles. The initiative seeks to reduce environmental plastic waste while producing affordable products for everyone. Inspired by a visit to a nearby town where blocked drainages with plastic waste caused unsanitary conditions and illnesses like malaria, the project is driven by the need to address these challenges. Additionally, it recognizes the detrimental effects of plastic pollution on marine life, threatening species like turtles and penguins with extinction.
The project process involves collecting waste plastic, washing, shredding, melting, pouring it into molds for desired shapes, curing, solidifying, and allowing it to cool. This initiative is particularly impactful in addressing the plastic waste problem in the project’s home country, offering a practical solution to environmental and societal issues.
