Being a Millennium Fellow will amplify my efforts by connecting me with like-minded individuals and mentors, equipping me with the skills needed to advocate effectively for children with ASD in Nigeria. I am excited to harness this opportunity to create a lasting social impact, aligned with the UN's Sustainable Development Goals "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Autism Awareness and Inclusivity Nigeria
The Autism Awareness and Inclusivity Nigeria project aims to raise awareness about Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in Nigeria, dismantle common myths, and promote inclusivity for children with autism. This initiative focuses on educating communities, families, and institutions about the signs of autism, early intervention, and the importance of creating supportive environments for children with ASD. Through partnerships with local NGOs, including the Autism Support and Advocacy Initiative (ASA), we work to improve access to information and resources for families affected by autism. The project includes interactive radio and social media campaigns, educational sessions, and community engagement efforts to foster a more inclusive society for children with autism.
The goal of the project is to provide accurate information, debunk myths around autism (such as the false link between vaccines and autism), and promote a culture of acceptance and support. Ultimately, we aim to enhance the quality of life for children with autism and empower their families to advocate for better healthcare and educational services.
