Millennium Fellowship Project: Strike Out Malaria/Genotype Awareness Campaign

The project Strike out Malaria/Genotype Awareness Campaign was birthed from the deadly effect of Malaria and susceptibility to Sickle Cell Anaemia of Nigerians. The project aimed to address this issue by getting to the very roots and providing enlightenment to persons within the community.
The project (campaign) was to cover three activities:
1. School Campaign and Enlightenment/ distribution of mosquito repellent (completed)
2. Hospital (antenatal ward) awareness and distribution of mosquito nets.
3. Gutter clearing campaign on campus
However, due to insufficient funds and a demanding academic schedule, only the first activity was carried out.
The School Campaign and Enlightenment was held at Federal Government College, Jos, Nigeria. The outreach featured: a. Talks on Malaria causes and prevention b. Distribution of mosquito repellent to students.
c. Distribution of mosquito coil to staff.
The funds for the event were raised by donations from family, friends, and individual supports and personal donations.
Volunteers were also gotten from within the campus who offered to be part of the event and contributed in one way or the other towards the success of the Strike Out Malaria/Genotype Awareness Campaign. Overall, the Campaign was a success with an impact on over 1200 students and staff
