" "Dedication and consistency are two of my watchwards. Being a part of the Millennium Fellowship will enable me connect with like minded individuals and gain knowledge from professionals in the field. This will help me to make more positive impact in my immediate community and ultimately, the world around me." "
Millennium Fellowship Project: The Emergency Warrior
Accidents happen every day, though some are minor, some accidents can lead to critical conditions or even the death of an individual. According to an article by The Cable- as of the 6th of November 2023, the Federal Road Safety
Corps in Lagos recorded 128 deaths from road accidents in 10 months. Seeing such statistics, I can’t help but ask if many of those deaths could have been avoided.
Emergencies don’t only apply to road accidents, fires, or even the smallest injuries that can become critical. This then begs the question,
does the average Nigerian know how to perform CPR? Does the average Lagosian know what to
do when someone is choking? Do we know what to do in an incident of burns and cuts? I believe that many lives can be saved and critical conditions avoided if people are thoroughly educated and can efficiently answer these
questions. Because of this, It is my dream to educate as many people as I can on basic medical and first aid practices and save many lives that would have otherwise been lost.
About the Millennium Fellow
Oyawoye Anuoluwapo is a young, smart, writer and a student of Pharmacy at the University of Lagos. She is someone who has always been inquisitive about the world and dedicates a lot of her time trying to make sense of it. In all her searching, she has come to deeply understand the concept of empathy and selflessness. This is one of the many reasons for her drive to constantly give back to her community, whether it be through volunteerism, writing, or community outreaches. She has dedicated the past few months to venturing into new territories; competitions, more leadership positions, essays, articles, and even politics. It has been quite a journey and she isn't about to give up yet. Anu dreams of one day owning an NGO whose main aim is to take people off the streets, (prioritizing children and those who need dire assistance, physical or mental). She hopes to one day be an example to the entire world, but she is determined to start, right here and now with those around her using the Millennium Campus Fellowship as a propelling guide.
