Millennium Fellowship Project: EmpowerU: Innovating Communities Through Education And Sustainability
The overall aim of EmpowerU is to create a more equitable and sustainable future by educating and empowering students and communities. Through a focus on equality, education, health, and sustainability, we seek to foster a generation that is not only aware of their rights and responsibilities but is also actively contributing to a healthier, more inclusive, and environmentally conscious society.
About the Millennium Fellow
Rafiu Badekale is a passionate, motivated, and academically driven petroleum and gas engineering student at the University of Lagos. Born and raised in Nigeria, he has excelled throughout his academic journey, overcoming personal challenges and emerging as a top-tier scholar in his field.
His interest in energy, sustainability, and materials science began early in his academic career and has continued to evolve through experiences such as internships with TotalEnergies and Schlumberger (SLB), where he gained valuable practical knowledge in the energy sector. His leadership has shone through his involvement in international competitions, such as leading the UNILAG team to represent Nigeria and Africa in the SPE International Petrobowl Competition in the USA.
He is an active advocate for sustainable development and has engaged in projects like energy auditing and energy efficiency evaluations in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He aspires to further these advocacies through research and innovation, particularly in materials development, with the aim of advancing sustainable energy solutions. With a strong desire to impact future generations, he also envisions a future career in academia, where he can share his knowledge and inspire others.
