" I am keenly enthusiastic in becoming a Millennium Fellow to leverage the platform's resources and network for advancing my commitment to social impact because it offers a unique platform which I believe will help amplify the impact of my work in mental health.
I am deeply passionate about advocating for improved mental health awareness and care, especially in communities where mental health concerns are often stigmatized or misunderstood.
The social problem I care about is the inadequate prioritization of mental health, often attributed to spiritual beliefs, leading to insufficient resources and support systems. In many communities, including my own, the stigma surrounding mental health can prevent individuals from seeking help. The mentality of my people being immune to a mental breakdown, even being seen as weak if one opens up about a mental challenge. Moreover, the scarcity of mental health facilities and professionals exacerbates the challenge, resulting in a limited hospitals-to-patient ratio.
My commitment to addressing this issue stems from a personal connection, witnessing the impact on my family members who faced mental health challenges without receiving the appropriate care. By advocating for increased awareness, education, and the allocation of resources to mental health services, I hope to contribute to breaking down the barriers that prevent individuals from seeking help and ensure that comprehensive and culturally sensitive mental health care is accessible to all. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Mental Health; A Pillar to Life

"Mental Health; A Pillar to Life" is an initiative aimed at tackling the stigma and inadequate resources surrounding mental health, especially in communities where spiritual beliefs overshadow psychological care. Recognizing the lack of mental health facilities and trained professionals, this project focuses on raising awareness and promoting culturally sensitive mental health education to shift public perception and dismantle barriers to seeking help. Inspired by personal experiences, the initiative advocates for the reallocation of resources to ensure accessible and comprehensive mental health services. Through community-driven efforts, "Mental Health; A Pillar to Life" seeks to empower individuals to prioritize mental well-being, fostering an environment where seeking support is both normalized and encouraged, contributing to a healthier, more supportive society.
