My work in waste management is driven by the urgent need to protect our planet and ensure a cleaner, healthier future for all. By transforming waste into resources, we can reduce pollution, conserve natural habitats, and promote a circular economy.”
For me, being a Millennium Fellow is about harnessing the power of collective action to address some of the world's pressing challenges. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Community Waste Management Initiative in Zomba
Community Waste Management Initiative at the University of Malawi and some areas in Zomba community:
As part of our cohort's community development project, we embarked on the Community Waste Management Initiative, aimed at addressing the pressing issues of broken sewage pipes and plastic disposal in our community, specifically within the University of Malawi and surrounding areas in Zomba. So, our objective was to create a cleaner, healthier, and sustainable environment by mitigating the dangers and risks associated with these problems. The community faced significant challenges due to broken sewage pipes contaminating water sources, posing health risks to residents, and improper plastic disposal choking drainage systems, harming wildlife, and polluting the environment.
