Millennium Fellowship Project: Community Waste Management Initiative in Zomba

Community Waste Management Initiative at the University of Malawi and some areas in Zomba community:
As part of our cohort's community development project, we embarked on the Community Waste Management Initiative, aimed at addressing the pressing issues of broken sewage pipes and plastic disposal in our community, specifically within the University of Malawi and surrounding areas in Zomba.So, our objective was to create a cleaner, healthier, and sustainable environment by mitigating the dangers and risks associated with these problems.The community faced significant challenges due to broken sewage pipes contaminating water sources, posing health risks to residents, and improper plastic disposal choking drainage systems, harming wildlife, and polluting the environment.

About the Millennium Fellow

Ulemu Mpekansambo is a young leader with a background in social sciences having graduated with a degree in economics. He is currently a final year Law student at the university of Malawi. He is also president of UNIMA Leo club and has also served as treasurer of the UNIMA students Law society. He was born in Malawi, one of the poorest counties in the world. Although not born into hardship himself, he has always been fully aware of the problems the people in his country face on a daily basis. He has taken it on himself to take a role and play his part in making his community, country, continent and the world at large a better place.
