University of Zambia | Lusaka, Zambia | Advancing SDG 6, SDG 3, SDG 11 & UNAI 9

" I am very excited to be part of the Millennium Fellowship class of 2024 because I would like to get more insights on how I can be more creative and more focused to work on SDG13( climate Action) because of the passion I have to be part of the people that will improve the world's climate change and putting in place regulations to help improve the adaptivity to climate change. Collaborating with others and improving my skills is another added advantage. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Sustainable Water, Environmental Education Project (SWEEP)
SWEEP (Sustainable Water, Environmental Education Project) aims to improve community health in Soweto Market, Lusaka, by targeting 150 women for sensitization on water sanitation and waste management. The program focuses on enhancing hygiene practices, reducing waste, and promoting water conservation to foster a healthier environment in Soweto Market which provides majority of Lusaka city's local food (fruits, vegetables and dries).
The impact of this project will go beyond just the 150 marketeers as it will protect consumers from contacting diseases from the food products bought from them. It will also help these women carry these hygiene practices back to their communities.
Finally, sweep will engage the city council to address the concern on waste disposal and collection within the market as well as how best to provide clean and safe water for the marketeers.
