Millennium Fellowship Project: Sustainable Water, Environmental Education Project (SWEEP)
The aim of the project is to ensure women in the market place practice clean hygiene as they work and also to ensure the marketplace has better waste management, clean water live and work in a sanitary environment. This will need engaging of stakeholders and the council to not neglect the marketplace and ensure even the marketeers have proper systems of waste collection and disposal as well as easy access to clean water.
About the Millennium Fellow
Mwaka siamaimbo is a young and vibrant youth who is passionate about community development, the environment and leadership, born on 2nd of November in a small village in the southern province of the Republic of Zambia.
She takes keen interest in ensuring that development reaches even those who are not able to advocate for it.in the absence of representation, mwaka is voice to many especially those that can not afford the privilege of being near access to small but vital things. As a girl who grew up in kanchele village in kalomo district of Southern province, mwaka understand how the impact of undevelopment can affect one's life and limit them in many different ways therefore her passion in community development and ensuring a healthy community free from infectious diseases reflects on the realities that she has experienced therefore prompting her to be a solution_based youth.
Furthermore, through the course of her pursuit, mwaka has served as ward development committee chairperson in her community.this ignited a further sense of understanding that there is no single approach to development as it is not an overnight but gradual process to achieve substantially therefore she continues to educate herself by engaging with like minded peers and attending conferences and summits and training programmes which can broaden her understanding and give her more clarity in the path that she wants to pursue to improve her community and gain ideas and knowledge of different developmental projects for her community. She is currently pursuing her bachelor's degree in environmental health sciences at the University of Zambia in her 4th year,during the course of her university days she has been privileged to serve as secretary General for the students association. During this period mwaka and her fellow executives came up with a project called keep unza clean and smart this project promotes sustainable development goals number 3,6,11 and 13 ,it is a privilege that she and her fellows are part of MCN to advance their project. Mwaka has also been privileged to be a Zambia ambassador for waterroots global project she is working with different students around the world to give a story of water perceptions in Zambia and cultural traditions. Mwaka posses other Qualifications which include a certificate in digital and economic diplomacy from United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR)
As of recent 2024 at the Southern African youth development Council (SAYDC),mwaka received an award for the best position paper emerging as the first Zambian to receive such an award at an international scale. Besides her many milestones and endeavours, mwaka still strives to be the best for her community and her country,.As a true patriot, she is currently working with kamwala ward5 under developmental projects. In her free time ,mwaka loves to travel.
