" The fellowship provides an incredible platform to collaborate with like-minded leaders from around the world who are committed to creating a healthier, more equitable future. My work in women's health is driven by a deep belief in the power of healthcare to transform lives, especially in underserved communities. Through the Millennium Fellowship, I am eager to expand my impact, advocate for women's rights, and contribute to the global pursuit of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: HPV Awareness Project For Adolescent Girls

My cohort and I have all at one point or another been to the Kenyatta National Hospital wards. We have all witnessed a lot of cervical cancer cases causing significant morbidity and mortality to women. We felt that a significant percentage of this was very preventable and we decided to start a project that involves talking to female adolescents aged 10-13 in the KNH pediatric ward and their caregivers and teaching them easy to understand ways of preventing such.
The project entails educating them about HPV, cervical cancer and the vaccines available. We also have future plans to expand the project to schools and homes around our environment and hope to reach more women.

About the Millennium Fellow

I am Celia, a dedicated medical student studying in Kenya, with a deep passion for advancing women’s health in alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Committed to achieving the goal of Good Health and Well-being, I aim to focus on improving maternal health, reducing preventable deaths, and ensuring equitable access to healthcare for women in underserved communities. Through this program, I want to actively participate in community health initiatives that advocate for women's empowerment and equal access to health services. As a future healthcare profesessional, I seek to foster global partnerships and champion women's health on both local and international platforms, with the support I will gain from this experience.
