" Empathy and innovation are key elements to my journey of social impact in healthcare. Being a Millennium Fellow open will open learning opportunities and create innovative platforms, all which will foster my suitability in the social justice space. I also hope to sharpen skills like communication, diversity appreciation and adaptability through the program. These will help in relationship building and resource mobilization which are key to the work I do. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: HPV Awareness Project For Adolescent Girls

My cohort and I have all at one point or another been to the Kenyatta National Hospital wards. We have all witnessed a lot of cervical cancer cases causing significant morbidity and mortality to women. We felt that a significant percentage of this was very preventable and we decided to start a project that involves talking to female adolescents aged 10-13 in the KNH pediatric ward and their caregivers and teaching them easy to understand ways of preventing such.
The project entails educating them about HPV, cervical cancer and the vaccines available. We also have future plans to expand the project to schools and homes around our environment and hope to reach more women.

About the Millennium Fellow

Faith Ndinda Ngila is an enthusiastic and compassionate lady, currently doing her final year at the medical school. She was born and raised in Eastern Kenya. Growing up, Faith has been passionate about social equity in healthcare. As a pupil in elementary school, she decided to be a doctor so as to help the less privileged in her community to attain high quality healthcare. During her time in Campus, Faith has worked with various NGO's promoting healthcare among the less privileged. This includes organizing and running medical camps among marginalized communities as well as menstrual health campaigns in slum areas. As she finishes school, Faith wishes that God helps her become a blessing to the less privileged through the skills she's learned in school.
