" Great and effective leadership has always been close to my heart. I am thrilled at the opportunity to hone my leadership skills through the Millennium Fellowship Programme and I look forward to the growth and impact that I willing gain as a fellow. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: IHL for Kids
The project seeks to pilot the International Committee of the Red Cross(ICRC) manual on Exploring Humanitarian Law at Tigoni Primary Street in Kiambu County. The manual was developed by the ICRC to serve as an education module that introduces young people between the ages of 13_-18 to the basic principles and rules of International Humanitarian Law. A pilot test has been conducted in various other countries such as Israel, Chile, Djibouti and the United States of America but the programme is yet to be implemented in Kenya. My project seeks to fill in this gap by piloting the module in Kenya.
About the Millennium Fellow
Mercy Kamau is a third year student at the University of Nairobi School of Law, Parklands Campus. She resides in one of the coldest towns in Kenya, Limuru.
Though she was raised in the chill of the central part of Kenya, her dreams have always burned brightly and she has never allowed them their light to dim. When she is not moderating or taking part in debates in the General Assembly wing of Kenya Model United Nations, you'll find her rehearsing or researching for a moot court competition. If you miss her in any of the two spots, you'll probably find her enjoying a good read or writing. Mercy hopes to hone her leadership skills through the Millennium Fellowship and create lasting impact especially in her broader field of interest, International Humanitarian Law.
