" Skill is an important tool in change. I am excited to acquire new skills through the Millennium Fellowship. The skills will allow me to bring more impact to my community as I learn better ways to navigate through the problems faced by women and children in communities. This will also enable me to achieve a social impact that aligns with the UNAI principles and SDGs "
Millennium Fellowship Project: HPV Awareness Project For Adolescent Girls
My cohort and I have all at one point or another been to the Kenyatta National Hospital wards. We have all witnessed a lot of cervical cancer cases causing significant morbidity and mortality to women. We felt that a significant percentage of this was very preventable and we decided to start a project that involves talking to female adolescents aged 10-13 in the KNH pediatric ward and their caregivers and teaching them easy to understand ways of preventing such.
The project entails educating them about HPV, cervical cancer and the vaccines available. We also have future plans to expand the project to schools and homes around our environment and hope to reach more women.
