Millennium Fellowship Project: Three Fruits Bearing Trees Per Family
"3 Fruits Bearing Trees per Family” is an initiative led by DUKUNDANE Onesphore, a Millennium Fellow class of 2024, addressing food security and environmental degradation by equipping families with fruit-bearing trees and sustainable agricultural training. Targeting households in Rwandan community, particulary in Kigali city, where the project aims to strengthen climate resilience, reduce hunger, and promote biodiversity. During the Millennium Fellowship (August-December 2024), the project distributed 200 trees, hosted 2 workshops on tree care and permaculture, and partnered with 1 local school to establish community orchards. By engaging 50+ families, the initiative fosters long-term self-sufficiency while aligning with SDGs 2 (Zero Hunger), 11 (Sustainable Cities), and 13 (Climate Action).
About the Millennium Fellow
Onesphore DUKUNDANE is a final-year Estate Management and Valuation student and a Millennium Fellow Class of 2024, spearheading the project “3 Fruits Bearing Trees per Family” to advance food security and environmental sustainability. I am an active member of their university’s SDGs Hub, who led initiatives that secured first place in Innovation in Action Week and the Greener Campus Hackathon, showcasing my commitment to scalable climate solutions. As a Toastmasters International member, i hone leadership and advocacy skills, while my final year thesis, “Assessing the Market Potential of Green Buildings in Kigali,” bridges academic rigor with sustainable urban development. Onesphore aims to leverage these experiences to amplify the UN Sustainable Development Goals through innovative policy and community-driven action.
