" "Ignorantia juris non excusat" is a legal adage my mother always repeated throughout my childhood as a reminder to educate myself on the laws of the land, as ignorance cannot be used as an excuse in a court of law. What I did not fully grasp, however, is that lack of knowledge of the law also leaves individuals vulnerable to wrongs being committed against them without their knowledge. This was a lesson I learned the hard way. I thus strive to educate others about the rights afforded them by the law, in addition to their legal obligations, to ensure all are equipped with the knowledge necessary to claim and defend their rights.
