" I am truly passionate about making communities more accessible and equitable. I hope to use the skills and experiences gained through this fellowship to contribute to the UN's Sustainable Development Goals at a community level, with potential for expansion. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Campus Web Accessibility Initiative
The Campus Web Accessibility Initiative is a personal research project focused on identifying and addressing the web accessibility needs of students at the University of Toronto (UofT). This initiative aims to explore the specific challenges students, particularly those with disabilities, face when navigating university websites. The findings will inform the creation of a comprehensive Web Content Style Guide designed to enhance the accessibility and usability of UofT's digital platforms for all users. The Web Content Style Guide will provide clear, actionable recommendations on how to design and structure web content in an inclusive and accessible manner. These guidelines will cover best practices in areas such as text formatting, multimedia accessibility, navigation design, and compliance with established accessibility standards like the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG). The guide will serve as a resource for web administrators, designers, and developers, supporting efforts to improve accessibility across the digital ecosystem.
By offering actionable strategies and tools, this project seeks to empower stakeholders to create more inclusive online environments, directly contributing to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 10: Reduced Inequalities. By addressing digital accessibility barriers, this initiative promotes equitable access to education and resources in the digital age, ensuring that all students, regardless of ability, can succeed in their academic environment.
