" Being a Millennium Fellow will allow me to connect with motivated people who are driven by their commitment to social impact. The Fellowship will also provide me with the platform to raise awareness about issues that are often underrepresented in society and drive social change. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Empowering Education Through Micro Donations

The project develops a model to more efficiently raise money for a cause. It was found that often individuals in developing countries will not donate when they are allowed to choose the amount (potentially since there is an implicit pressure to donate a large amount). The solution to overcome this issue was to offer individuals only one choice - to donate a small amount (approximately $1). We partnered with a local NGO ADAPT (formerly The Spastics Society of India) to test this model. and were able to collect donations from over 70 donours, effectively raising funds and awareness for differently abled children. The scope for this project is to scale up this model to improve the success rate of fundraising for social causes.

About the Millennium Fellow

Zaidaan Zia Siddiqui is a third-year student at Rotman Commerce at the University of Toronto. Zaidaan grew up in Bahrain, where he based his social impact project, founded four years ago. Through his initiative, “Bridging the Gap,” he has worked closely with the socially marginalized community and raised funds to support their children's education in their home countries. He believes this is truly the way to bring about economic upliftment. Zaidaan aims to increase the reach of his project by collaborating with like-minded individuals and leading more initiatives for change.
