" I remember the frustration of seeing valuable resources in my community go to waste because of the digital divide. That memory fuels my work every day. As a Millennium Fellow, I am excited to build a foundation of digital literacy, empowering individuals to use their resources effectively. For me, it’s about giving people the knowledge and skills they need to turn the tools they have into opportunities for a better life. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Digital Roots

Digital Roots is a community based project that guides people in becoming digitally literate. The plan is to gather volunteers and organize workshops where the volunteers teach the basics (roots) of digital literacy. Other than the workshops the beneficiaries will be able to contacts the tutors if they have any questions.

About the Millennium Fellow

Elshaday Alem Ghebretsadikan, an engineering student at Addis Ababa Science and Technology University, was born and raised in Ethiopia. Growing up, she saw how a lack of digital skills held people back. This inspired her to co-found a club that taught basic digital literacy and introduced advanced students to web-development. She's now working to expand this initiative, hoping to reach more people and equip them with the essential skills they need. Passionate about technology and education, Elshaday wants to contribute to the United Nations sustainable goal of Quality Education by empowering her community to thrive in the digital world.
