" Many girls in my region marry early even though they have great potential. This makes me sad, and it inspires me to help them build skills and follow their passions. I believe that with collaboration and support, we can create real change and open more opportunities for them. The Millennium Fellowship will help me work with others who share this vision and make a bigger impact. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Sisterhood Squad
My project is called Sisterhood Squad. It’s a support group I started with around 40 girls from Tigray who study at Addis Ababa University. All of us went through a lot during the 3-year war, but these girls are strong and very smart. Most of them are doing great in their studies. But I believe that school is not enough—we also need other skills like tech, leadership, communication, and confidence. That’s why I created Sisterhood Squad—to help each other grow in more ways than just school. We share free courses, like coding lessons from SheCodes. I also plan to invite senior students or professionals to guide us and share their experiences. If possible, we want to meet every week in person, in a small classroom, to learn together, discuss, and practice skills. My dream is to create a safe, loving space where we grow not just as students, but as future leaders and change-makers.
