The American College of Greece | Athens, Greece | Advancing SDG 3 & UNAI 3

" Alexandra wants to nurture her leadership and teamwork skills as she dreams of starting her own nursing home and simultaneously run as political candidate in her community. She believes the Millennium Fellowship will not only help her nurture the skills she expects to, but she also believes that the Fellowship will nurture many other soft skills, making her prepared to do the aforementioned things in her career. This is because she will be working hand-in-hand with other fellows and will also provide mentoring along with Antonis; the other Campus Director. Furthermore, the interaction that she will have with the beneficiaries of her social project during the fellowship will help her enhance her EQ and she will also get to understand some more challenges that unprivileged individuals experience. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Enhancing Health Literacy and Neuroplasticity
The project aims to enhance neuroplasticity, namely sharpen the brain of the beneficiaries as they are midlifers and given their poor lifestyle, they are more prone to developing Alzheimer's. Given that studies suggest that brain activities like chess can delay the onset of Alzheimer's, I thought of initiating this project so that I would potentially improve their life by engaging them in interactive and fun chess sessions. I consider this project to be successful as beneficiaries have learnt to cooperate more with one another, they encourage themselves and others, and some of them have even developed friendships. All this is really important because such people have gone or still going through such difficult situations where even the smallest things we take for granted are not a given for them.
