" I am driven by the urge to create change by ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to reach their full potential. I believe that with the right mentorship, resources, and support, people can achieve far beyond of their expectations. I am where I am today because others believed in my dreams, and I want to be that person who believes in, supports, and nurtures the talents and ambitions of others. I believe the Millennium Fellowship will equip me with the skills, network, and platform to turn my ideas into concrete initiatives that create a lasting impact amongst Mozambicans. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Hoyo-Hoyo Maxaca

Hoyo-Hoyo Maxaca means "welcome family" in changana, one of the languages from Mozambique. It is a NGO (non-governmental organization) focused on improving living conditions of the less fortunate in third world countries by eliminating issues such as, illiteracy, unemployment, unavailable healthcare and sanitary products, and homelessness. I know that at first glance it seems a lot, and sort of impossible for a undergraduate student to make it happen, but just like my mother tells me "slowly and steady you finish the race". My goal is to start with the small things like providing sanitary products such as pads for women, donating books to a local library, if there isn't a local library then donate it to a school, give free classes to everybody, especially adults, on financial education, and build a platform to further grow and improve. To be able to have an actual impact I need partnerships and donations, hence I first need to educate myself regarding this matter. I have had this idea for a couple years now, but I didn't know how to put it into practice, and I believe that during the Millennium Fellowship I will gain insight on ways to finally make it happen!
