" I am excited to be a Millennium Fellow because it offers a unique platform to amplify my vision for transforming rural education in South Sudan, collaborate with like-minded change makers, and turn bold ideas into tangible impact that uplifts communities. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Panda Handcraft Ltd
Panda Handcraft is a project that is focused on empowering the youth and women in South Sudan by utilizing local creativity to generate a source of sustainable income. The project is a response to the issue of high youth unemployment and the insufficiency of marketable skills in rural areas, where talented people are not necessarily able to access training, tools, and markets for their products. Panda Handcraft offers capacity-building in crafting and digital marketing as well as small-business skills, where participants get to produce and sell handmade goods, including accessories, home decor, and cultural goods. The project will focus on raising the level of economic autonomy, cultural craftsmanship, and local entrepreneurship. Panda Handcraft can be used to create social impact in the sense that it enhances livelihoods, enables self-reliance, and makes the youths consider their creativity as one of the ways through which they can come out of poverty.
