" I believe that when a girl is empowered through education, she transforms not only her own life but also the future of her community. The Millennium Fellowship is an opportunity to amplify my mission, connect with change makers, and create lasting impact for young women who are often left behind. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: The Dada Initiative

The Dada Initiative is dedicated to empowering marginalised young women from rural and underserved communities in South Sudan, many of whom face severe barriers to accessing higher education. These young women often experience financial hardship, restrictive cultural expectations, limited access to information, and a lack of mentorship or support systems that could guide them toward academic and personal growth.
The project focuses on rural women aged 15–24, including those living in remote villages, low-income households, and refugee or displacement settings. These are women who are often left behind due to limited educational infrastructure, gendered responsibilities, and the absence of opportunities to develop their skills or pursue higher learning.
Through scholarship awareness programs, mentorship circles, advocacy training, and community workshops, the Dada Initiative equips these young women with the knowledge, confidence, and support they need to pursue education and break cycles of inequality. The project also uses storytelling, particularly video documentation, to highlight their journeys, amplify their voices, and inspire communities to create spaces where women’s education is valued and protected.
Overall, the Dada Initiative aims to build a stronger culture of gender equity, educational access, and community support for rural South Sudanese women, empowering them to become leaders of change in their families and communities.
