United Nations Academic Impact and MCN are proud to partner on the Millennium Fellowship. This year, 60,000+ young leaders applied to join the Class of 2025 on 7,000+ campuses across 170 nations. 290+ campuses worldwide (less than 5%) were selected to host the 4,500+ Millennium Fellows.

Millennium Fellowship Project: EmpowerHER: Women in STEM and Leadership

Project Title: Empowering Women in STEM and Leadership
This project focuses on inspiring, equipping, and empowering young women to pursue careers and leadership roles in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). Through workshops, mentorship sessions, and awareness campaigns, the project aims to address gender gaps in STEM fields, build confidence, and cultivate leadership skills among female students. It also promotes gender equality by encouraging more inclusive participation in technology and innovation spaces.

About the Millennium Fellow

Tumugane Rolande is a passionate Rwandan changemaker committed to empowering women in STEM and breaking gender barriers in education. Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s in Software Engineering at the African Leadership University, she leads initiatives that inspire girls to pursue technology and leadership roles. Inspired by her own experience overcoming gender bias, Rolande advocates for inclusive education, social justice, and community-driven solutions. She has represented her mission at the Global AI Summit and collaborates with youth networks to advance the UN Sustainable Development Goals, especially gender equality and quality education.
