" “I am excited to be a Millennium Fellow because it gives me the platform to amplify youth voices in addressing non-communicable diseases. I do this work because I believe young people hold the power to shift health behaviors and build more resilient communities across Africa." "

Millennium Fellowship Project: NCDs & ME

NCDs & Me is a youth-led initiative focusing on raising awareness, fostering behavior change, and building community action around
non-communicable diseases (NCDs) among young people in communities. During the Millennium Fellowship, *NCDs & Me* reached **49+ youth** through workshops, school sessions, and wellness events, trained a small team of peer educators, and launched relatable digital NCD awareness content. Creative approaches like skating and art-based events worked extremely well in attracting youth and reducing stigma around issues like obesity and mental health. Partnerships with teachers, CHWs, and youth groups strengthened engagement, while personal storytelling boosted online reach. However, inconsistent attendance, limited funding, and the need for tighter scheduling and follow-up affected the scale of activities. Overall, the project met its core goals on awareness, youth engagement, and content creation, while highlighting the need for better structure and resources to scale impact further.
