" I believe leadership in nursing begins with daring to dream beyond the bedside. Through the Millennium Fellowship, I'm excited to amplify conversations around maternal health and teenage sexuality, and equip nurses with the tools to lead change. This journey is about transforming systems, empowering communities, and building a future where healthcare is driven by innovation, equity, and collaboration. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: iNURSE BEYOND NURSING

The project is an aim to raise the nursing standards in Africa through training Nurses in public speaking and Leadership training to create strategic leadership which assists knowledge retention in Africa and end brain drain.
During this projects time i uncovered that most nurse leaders struggle with leadership especially when they are given into new leadership roles, lack of a training manual leads to make up leadership whenever a new leader comes in so there's no set standard for mentorship as they transition and resultantly most of them lack a leadership vision board.
With this we created mentorship classes with qualified professionals who would offer trainings and set ways that would help the leaders to function well in their administrative capacity.

About the Millennium Fellow

Maxwell Kipkurui Ngeno is a nursing student at AMREF International University in Northlands, Kenya, with a deep commitment to transforming healthcare systems through leadership and community empowerment. Born in Keringet, Nakuru County, Maxwell has taken on several leadership roles both within and beyond the classroom, challenging the traditional boundaries of nursing by advocating for nurses to dream beyond the bedside.
His passion lies in advancing maternal health—before, during, and after pregnancy—and creating safe, stigma-free spaces for teenagers to engage in conversations around sexuality. These interests were sparked during community outreach programs, where firsthand encounters with underserved populations revealed urgent gaps in care and education.
Maxwell has served as the Lead for Partnerships in the iSpeak Society, where he honed his skills in communication and strategic leadership. He is currently developing an initiative to train nurses in leadership and regularly volunteers to deliver health talks in local communities.
Through the Millennium Fellowship, Maxwell seeks to amplify his impact by engaging with diverse perspectives, accessing transformative resources, and advancing SDGs 3, 9, 10, and 17. His vision is to build a collaborative, innovative, and equitable healthcare future—starting with empowered nurses and informed communities.
