About the Millennium Fellow

This is Laiqa Mehrzad from Afghanistan. I am currently studying economics at the Asian University for Women. For as long as I remember, I wanted to help people in need. During my high school, I began my activities to a greater extent. I built a team of volunteers providing free public speaking skill sessions for secondary school students. Moreover, I became a member of the Mehr advocacy committee that advocates for deprived and orphaned children. Both voluntary and working experiences with many organizations helped me to be selected as the Afghan youth representative in Asia South Pacific for basic and adult education. When I joined AUW, I found the Sane Change organization focusing on education and capacity building. Our initiative includes an online book club, storytelling program, online English programs, and workshops with a broad range of educational topics.
