UNITED NATIONS ACADEMIC IMPACT AND MCN PROUDLY PRESENT MITHRA KARTHIKEYA, A MILLENNIUM FELLOW FOR THE CLASS OF 2025.
Azim Premji University Bengaluru | Bengaluru, India | Advancing SDG 10, SDG 8 & UNAI 9

" I am excited to be a Millennium Fellow, as this is my first formal opportunity to put my learnings and skills to use and to test. I am eager to learn and to contribute to a social cause, especially one at the level of an SDG. I am very glad that I can do it while I am still in college, with my peers, with wonderful faculty, and with a mentor from the fellowship to guide us in achieving the goals of our project. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: The Campus Keepers
Our campus has a huge diversity of students, faculty, working members, etc. As part of a course that I had taken in my first semester, some of us had interviewed many of the working members on our campus, and we realized how most of them are migrants from Bangladesh, Nepal, or from other states like Bihar and Assam. We observed that there is a very noticeable difference in the way they are treated. Our project aims to analyze this situation further and understand the difficulties they must be facing in an unfamiliar setting, far from home and in a big institution like this. We want to see how we can improve this situation at our campus.
About the Millennium Fellow
Mithra Karthikeya is a third-year biology student at Azim Premji University in Bangalore, India. She is passionate about wildlife and conservation. Having studied in alternative schools, she grew up in an unconventional learning environment that focused on many activities outside of classrooms, like gardening, nature walks, bird watching, crafts, community engagement, and restoration efforts. Through this Millennium Fellowship, Mithra hopes to apply her experiences from school and college towards achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals, while fostering an inclusive and just space for the larger community.
