Millennium Fellowship Project: Reach,Inspire,Support,Empower-10Girls(RISE-10G)
RISE–10G is a youth-led mentorship initiative that empowers young women to drive change in their communities through education, leadership, and health awareness. The project connects female university students with high school girls in underserved areas, creating a mentorship chain where each university mentor supports ten girls. This model builds confidence, academic strength, and leadership capacity among participants. The project benefits both mentors and mentees—high school girls develop knowledge and self-worth, while university mentors enhance their leadership and communication skills.
About the Millennium Fellow
Onaopemipo Akinola-Fowotade was born and raised in Nigeria, where she continues to live and pursue her passion for medicine and community development. A fifth-year medical student, she is deeply connected to her roots and actively works to improve health and education within her local communities. She leads initiatives such as the Just Us Girls club and organizes health outreaches that empower young women and promote gender equality. Inspired by mentors addressing the mental health effects of child marriage, she blends advocacy with her medical training. Ope’s commitment reflects her pride in Nigeria’s resilience and her vision for a healthier future.
