" I believe true freedom exists only when dignity, justice, and opportunity are shared by all. The Millennium Fellowship is an opportunity to connect theory with action, working alongside others to challenge inequality, drawing from (SDG) 11 and advocate for sustainable cities and communities, build systems where justice, sustainability, and empowerment uplift communities and strengthen their ability to thrive. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: LEAP - Law and Education Awareness Project

The Law and Education Advocacy Project (LEAP) was born out of a strong desire to bridge the aching and wide gap between privilege and exclusion in Pakistan’s urban cities and centers. LEAP aims to empower the marginalized communities living in informal settlements or Katchi Abadian, in cities even like the Federal Capital, Islamabad, and Rawalpindi.
These settlements are homes to thousands upon thousands of those who remain invisible to the privileged eye, these people denied access to basic education, clean water, sanitation, and healthcare. LEAP is an initiative designed to effectuate awareness, action, and advocacy, providing legal literacy, critical education, and sustainable living awareness and practices whilst most importantly of all, and the very foundation of the project; Fostering dialogue, meaningful dialogue between the privileged and the neglected. With a mission to create and subsequently nurture a shared space where learning, empathy, and recognition transcend the shackling class division, and empowering and birthing citizens who not only understand their rights but each other on an unaltered, raw and pure human level.

About the Millennium Fellow

Sarib Ahmed Awan is a law student at Bahria University, Islamabad, committed to ensuring that no one is invisible in the eyes of the law. His passion for human rights and sustainability grew from witnessing systemic neglect in marginalized settlements and understanding how social injustice, economic exploitation, structural inequality and environmental harm intersect. Grounded in the belief that true progress and leadership lies in challenging systems of inequality and injustice, Sarib seeks to bridge the gap between legal awareness and sustainable development, empowering communities to claim and protect their rights while fostering systems where inclusion is embedded in lasting social change, working together towards mutual empowerment.
