" I am extremely excited to be a Millennium Fellow because it provides the platform, training, and skills I need to drive meaningful change and contribute to building a healthier, more equitable society in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). I am driven by a clear vision—not just of what is, but of what should be. Being part of this fellowship will empower me to turn my passion into measurable progress in healthcare and social justice. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: PENTAPACT: 5 goals one commitment

Project Pentapact is an initiative that aims to work on 5 SDGs we have identified in our local community that needs to be addressed.
As a campus, our target locations include a school and a primary healthcare center. For the school we are working towards providing some basic educational materials, addressing the rising issue of gambling practice, discrimination against girls, handwashing and menstrual hygiene. For the primary healthcare center we are working towards providing some basic equipments routinely used in practice to maintain aseptic procedures, free hand sanitizers to the people we meet on the day of the outreach and also awareness on mental health.
The target is to bridge the gap that exists between knowledge and access in local communities.

About the Millennium Fellow

Asekun Abiola is a bright, inquisitive, and goal-oriented final-year medical student at Bingham University, Jos, with a strong passion for human rights, health equity, and climate justice. Born and raised in Abuja, Nigeria, Abiola began her medical journey at Sumy State University, Ukraine, where she demonstrated resilience and adaptability, continuing her studies in Nigeria after being displaced by the Ukraine war.
Throughout her academic and personal journey, Abiola has remained deeply committed to advocating for fairness, justice, and systemic change. Her passion lies in improving healthcare access and outcomes for women and children, especially within underserved communities in Nigeria.
Beyond medicine, Abiola is an ardent supporter of climate action, recognizing its profound impact on public health, especially in vulnerable populations. She believes that true change lies at the intersection of policy, practice, and grassroots advocacy—and aspires to build a career where she can not only advocate for change but also actively lead it.
