BRAC University | Dhaka, Bangladesh | Advancing SDG 3 & UNAI 3

" "Being vocal about the diseases can create awareness, and I think my ability to go to the depth of the topic until I get my desired result will help the world to normalise breast cancer as a disease only, and the survivors, as well as the patients, will feel safe and will free themselves from insecurities. I am excited because I will use this as a platform to build a better society. I am here because my parents raised me as a human rather than a girl child. I believe all the people in the world have wings, just they need the motivation to fly." "
Millennium Fellowship Project: The Pink Project
Breast cancer is one of the cancers that is increasing at a high rate but also offers the best treatment if diagnosed at an early stage. In most parts of the world, talking about breasts is considered a social taboo, and females feel shy to talk about it, which neglects the diagnosis as well as treatment. So, my project helps to create awareness and removes the social stigma regarding breast cancer. Besides, it will engage more people, which will help to normalize talking about breast cancer, too.
About the Millennium Fellow
Sadia Marium is a student of BRAC University studying in the Microbiology Program under the MNS Department. She dreams of creating an inclusive society where people can live freely and equally. She survived a burn where she got to know more about the social barriers. She wishes to remove the common taboos such as menstruation, survivor scars, divorce, consent, etc., in developing countries like her own motherland, Bangladesh. From her school life, she was very vocal about injustices through debates and other activities. Her dream project regarding breast cancer aims to normalise breast cancer as a disease rather than a taboo.
