Millennium Fellowship Project: Vital Earth Organics

The project targets the organic waste generated from restaurants, households and vegetable markets in Quetta City. As the city produces almost 1500 tonnes of solid waste daily, and 40% of it is comprised of organic waste. This organic waste holds immense potential as a fertiliser, but the traditional composting method takes time. Therefore, we use the help of worms, a method known as vermicomposting, which can not only help in reducing waste but also help in rejuvenating the land with natural fertiliser, having no harmful effects compared to synthetic materials. We within our campus successfully converted 30 kg of waste into vermicompost using red wiggler worms and spread awareness among 400 students about the vermicomposting and its benefits.
