" I do the work I do because I believe data isn't just numbers — it’s a language that can tell stories, solve injustices, and reveal the unseen. I'm excited to be a Millennium Fellow because I want to turn that language into impact, alongside others who lead with both purpose and heart "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Research on Dark Matter Distribution
My project, “Mapping the Invisible: Analysis of Dark Matter Distribution in the Milky Way Galaxy,” explores how data science and astrophysics can be combined to study the unseen structures that shape our universe. Using stellar data from the Gaia DR3 mission, I analyze patterns in motion and position to estimate how dark matter might be distributed across the Milky Way. The goal is to strengthen research culture, promote scientific curiosity, and highlight how computational methods can advance innovation, aligning directly with SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure. Through this work, I aim to show how technology and scientific inquiry can help us understand the universe while inspiring others in my community to pursue research-driven learning.
About the Millennium Fellow
I'm Ajlal, a data science student with a passion for solving meaningful problems — from mapping dark matter in galaxies to building real-world automations that support global teams. I believe in blending curiosity with compassion, and using technology not just to analyze, but to uplift. I've led intern teams, designed global engagement campaigns, and contributed to space research — always with purpose at heart. The Millennium Fellowship feels like the right next step to amplify my impact, grow as a changemaker, and collaborate with people who dream just as boldly.
