" “Prevention is the most powerful tool we have! yet simple, local innovations are often overlooked. You can’t mop the floor while the tap is still running; we must turn it off first. I do this work to challenge systemic neglect, empower youth voices, and connect communities to the Sustainable Development Goals. The Millennium Fellowship is a chance to amplify these efforts and drive meaningful change before the clock runs out on Agenda 2030.” "
Millennium Fellowship Project: MentWell
The Copperbelt University Millennium Fellowship class of 2025 did
a group project called MentWell. A student-Led project addressing mental health challenges among medical students at Copperbelt University. Recognizing the high academic pressure and the stress
associated with failing tests (which often leads to part-time status), the project created safe spaces for dialogue, peer support and shared
coping strategies. Through interactive sessions and peer to peer
engagement, MentWell directly reached over 100 students,
fostering resilience and promoting mental wellbeing during exam periods.
About the Millennium Fellow
Jonathan Munyenyembe is a passionate Public Health student at the Copperbelt University School of Medicine, born and raised in Kabwe, Zambia, a town deeply affected by lead pollution from poor mining practices. Witnessing environmental degradation and community silence fueled his commitment to environmental protection, social justice, and youth empowerment. Jonathan is especially driven by the UN Sustainable Development Goals 3, 4, 6, and 13 and advocates for urgent action as Agenda 2030 approaches. He envisions a future where empowered youth lead transformative change for healthier, more equitable communities.
