" I love to keep learning: I always try to keep getting new information and compare it with different perspectives to create my own. I believe that by becoming a Millennium Fellow I will get new skills to share my knowledge and get other people to also become interested in sustainability-related topics while also broadening my own perspectives and judgements. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: TerraVita

In Terravita we are a student group that involves three areas: climate action, sustainability and environmental education. We have a few monthly activities with the purpose of raising awareness in our school such as community recycling days in which people from Tijuana can give us their plastic bottles, paper, cardboard, metal and electronics so we can then separate them, and the school can take them to recycling spots. There are also ecological bazaars where we help local businesses that are environment-friendly and often do activities so the students can win prizes while also helping them be aware of consumerism and how they can change their lifestyles to have better habits. We are currently searching to grow, not only to help people within our school, but to also collaborate with other organizations and groups, such as Salvemos la Playa with activities and speeches; as well as with Guías de México where we talk to girl scouts about sustainability related topics.

About the Millennium Fellow

Martha Luciana López Chávez is a student at CETYS Universidad in Tijuana, Mexico who, as a 19-year-old youth, has discovered that her passion is nature: doing outdoor activities, serving her community to beautify her surroundings and fighting against climate change. She believes that actions speak more than a thousand words so; to help she often finds ways to connect with her surroundings such as reforestation activities, cleaning beaches, separating waste, and letting other people know about the problem that we are now facing. She is optimistic that, as a community, we can write our own path and a greener future.
