Millennium Fellowship Project: Serving Solidarity
My colleague and I are planning to work on an existing volunteer initiative at our university that supports Caritas Community Kitchen (CCK). CCK is an NGO that holds cooking events and distributes food to people in need in the 10th district. Our goal is to expand and support this project by creating a campus-based initiative and an information and integration campaign to make it easier for students to get involved. We plan to contact CCK and develop a plan for the upcoming fall semester based on their needs for products and volunteers. Once the semester begins, we will organize a food drive and create areas where people will be able to drop off food products that will be used for the cooking events, which we will contribute to with volunteers. Meanwhile, we will launch an outreach program to encourage more students and faculty members to volunteer. We will use strategies like word of mouth, posters, WhatsApp groups, and university newsletters. To make the project more culturally diverse, we hope to collaborate with a local high school to recruit student volunteers. Working alongside people of similar ages would be a great way to integrate our campus community with the 10th district.
About the Millennium Fellow
Gergana Tseneva is a action-driven, socially conscious student at Central European University, specializing in politics and governmental studies. Her path in education, taking her from her home country, Bulgaria, to Austria, has helped her cultivate a strong interest in international politics and climate justice. Her passion lies not only in advocating for urgent action for mitigating global warming effects across societies, but also finding ways to help people foster compassion - for others, for nature, and for themselves. In high school, she discovered the value of volunteering and the weight of purpose-driven leadership. Today, through internships in the sustainability sector and social engagement projects, she is working toward a future that aligns her commitment to climate justice with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, striving to make a meaningful, lasting contribution to a more just and environmentally-conscious world.
