" Being a part of the Millennium Fellowship will give me an opportunity to finally do the work I have been wanting to do in a while. Having the support and guidance will give me the confidence to successfully do my project and also help me expand certain skills and also give me insight into how the real world works, outside of my uni-bubble "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Serving Solidarity

My colleague and I are planning to work on an existing volunteer initiative at our university that supports Caritas Community Kitchen (CCK). CCK is an NGO that holds cooking events and distributes food to people in need in the 10th district. Our goal is to expand and support this project by creating a campus-based initiative and an information and integration campaign to make it easier for students to get involved. We plan to contact CCK and develop a plan for the upcoming fall semester based on their needs for products and volunteers. Once the semester begins, we will organize a food drive and create areas where people will be able to drop off food products that will be used for the cooking events, which we will contribute to with volunteers. Meanwhile, we will launch an outreach program to encourage more students and faculty members to volunteer. We will use strategies like word of mouth, posters, WhatsApp groups, and university newsletters. To make the project more culturally diverse, we hope to collaborate with a local high school to recruit student volunteers. Working alongside people of similar ages would be a great way to integrate our campus community with the 10th district.
