" I am a person who believes that real change begins in our own surroundings. My ability to transform personal/local experiences to dialogues of reform and empowerment is the very reason why I am excited to be a Millennium Fellow. I simply love doing the work I do because I believe I am more emphasizing and comprehensible to the people and therefore, I will be honoured and happy to bring a change to their lives. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Men Matter Too: Rethinking Men's Health

We know that the mental and physical wellbeing of Women are recognized and with the influence of feminist movement and its dynamics, every year we celebrate Women's day in a grandeur. We post in social media etc. But in these times, we often forget that Men's mental and physical health matters too. The society almost puts a blind eye towards the emotions, health of men. We rarely post in social media about celebrating Men's day. This also encourages gender inequality. We often think that when a talk about gender inequality comes to the podium it is always about Women being the victim. This is a reality. But there is also another side to this coin, that is when Men are being the victim; where they are not free to express themselves and not able to talk about what worries them. So this project hopes to raise awareness about Men and their health so that we can celebrate the coming Men's day with a pride.

About the Millennium Fellow

Arthana JR, a student of BA History and Political Science at CHRIST (Deemed to be University) and a native of Kerala, has undergone a remarkable transformation in her aspirations-from an interest to teaching and service, to the stage of diplomacy and crisis negotiating. Her undergraduate life exposed her to various societal injustices, particularly gender-based, strengthening her resolve to drive change. Her strong belief in 'change in the neighbourhood, for a greater future' is her mantra for her future. She plans to take her masters in crisis and security management and be a part of United Nations
