Christ (Deemed to be University) Central Campus | Bengaluru, India | Advancing SDG 11, SDG 12 & UNAI 8

" "As a Millennium Fellow, I am excited to collaborate with passionate change makers who share the vision of building sustainable, equitable communities. My work stems from the belief that informed action, empathy, and policy-driven solutions can transform everyday challenges like climate change, human rights concerns, and urban congestion into opportunities for lasting social impact that benefit both present and future generations." Millennium Fellowship Project: The Sustainable Commute: Reducing Private Vehicle Dependence
My fellowship project focuses on encouraging a cultural shift toward sustainable mobility by promoting the use of public transport and reducing dependence on private vehicles. This initiative directly contributes to SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities & Communities) and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption & Production) by fostering environmentally responsible choices within my campus community.
The project has three core components:
1. Visual Awareness Through Posters
I am designing impactful, easy-to-understand posters that highlight the environmental, economic, and lifestyle benefits of public transport. These posters will be displayed across key areas of the campus to spark everyday conversations and reinforce the importance of sustainable mobility.
2. Transport Stories Wall
Create a space where students can pin sticky notes describing their daily commute struggles or positive experiences with public transport.
3. Academic & Policy Engagement
Last year, I was part of the organizing team for the lecture series "Transforming Urban Spaces", which brought experts to discuss innovative ideas in urban mobility, planning, and sustainable city development. Building on this experience, I am also working on a research article that explores the importance of public transport in creating equitable, livable cities planned for publication in the coming months.
