Millennium Fellowship Project: Finance Forward: Youth Financial Literacy Initiative
Finance Forward: Youth Financial Literacy Initiative is a student-led program created by Vanshika Garg and Daksh Rewri to address a critical but often overlooked gap in India’s education system—practical financial literacy for young people. While students spend years learning theoretical concepts, most graduate without understanding essential money-management skills such as budgeting, saving, building an emergency fund, or the fundamentals of investment instruments like SIPs, LIC policies, and mutual funds.
The initiative delivers approachable and jargon-free financial education through interactive webinars. Rather than relying on technical language or intimidating financial frameworks, Finance Forward simplifies complex concepts into accessible, real-life examples. The focus is on empowering first-time learners—especially college students and young professionals—to develop confidence in managing their finances and to initiate healthy financial habits early in life.
Through these sessions, participants learn how to track expenses, set realistic financial goals, understand investment options, and make informed decisions about savings and risk. The project not only increases knowledge but also shifts mindsets by normalizing conversations about money, encouraging financial responsibility, and reducing the hesitation many young people feel about asking basic financial questions.
About the Millennium Fellow
Daksh Rewri is an undergraduate at Christ University in Bengaluru who enjoys building simple, practical programs that help students thrive. Over the past year, he has led peer sessions on digital safety and personal finance, and worked with student clubs and local partners to turn ideas into action. Daksh cares about community, clear results, and learning by doing. He’s especially interested in how young people can use data and storytelling to advance the UN SDGs on quality education and equality. Outside class, you’ll find him mentoring juniors and organizing hands-on workshops or some rare times playing chess.
