" I am excited to be a Millennium Fellow because it aligns with my vision of applying economics and data-driven insights to solve pressing societal challenges, while collaborating with a global network of change makers. I believe in the power of informed decision-making to drive systemic change, and the Fellowship offers the perfect platform to turn research into action. Together, we can create impact that is both measurable and meaningful. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: A Mathematical Model for Emergency Preparedness

Ensuring campus safety during emergencies is a critical concern, yet many students
and staff remain unaware of proper evacuation procedures. Currently, there is a lack
of regular mock evacuation drills, and existing emergency protocols are not widely
disseminated. This gap in preparedness poses
significant risks, as inefficient evacuation processes can lead to confusion, delays, and
potential harm during crises such as fires, earthquakes, or other unforeseen emergencies.
Addressing this issue aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal
(SDG) 11: Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable1.
Specifically, this initiative contributes to the target of Disaster Risk Reduction by
enhancing campus preparedness and minimizing risks. Our goal is to develop a structured,
data-driven approach to ensure a safe and efficient evacuation strategy, fostering a more
resilient academic environment.
