Christ (Deemed to be University) Central Campus | Bengaluru, India | Advancing SDG 13, SDG 11 & UNAI 9

" Creativity, relevancy and tackling realities empirically is what drives me. I am most excited to be a Millennium Fellow because I believe that it will provide a platform for me to put my ideas into motion and drive my social impact to the next level. It will also guide me on how to implement strategies aligned with SDGs and UNAI principles in a manner that actually makes a change. I am looking forward to take my learning and potential to a new height. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Your Trash My Trash
Your Trash My Trash (YTMT) is not just a project but a social movement of some sort. To explain simply, it aims to cover 3 aspects- * Social impact: YTMT will seek out areas of concern and begin an organised cleaning mission starting there, and building connections to contribute more. For example, while travelling today I saw people living under a flyover in extremely unsanitary conditions with no access to dustbins, healthcare or sanitation facilities. My project would start by bringing volunteers to address small target areas like this where the affected have trouble resolving the sanitation issues themselves, this improves their living conditions AND cleans up our city. * Awareness: Impact is impossible without awareness, YTMT will enable team members to not just spread awareness among those who can help but more towards the affected population so that they are able to foster and maintain a clean and healthy lifestyle. * Social Media: YTMT hosts a campaign- “Your Trash My Trash” to motivate people to consider all forms of littering an insult to their own personal spaces, and post impactful messages or pictures addressing the problems. The goal is to create a catchy phrase or movement that motivates citizens.
About the Millennium Fellow
Nandini Karat Nair is an ambitious young citizen who aspires to use her creativity for the greater good of the people and the planet. She was born in Kerala, India but has spent her life growing up in several places across India and the world. Such a global exposure at a young age inspired her to learn more about the intricacies of the world, which she does by working at think tanks and engaging in community development. She has volunteered at NGOs during high school and in college and also takes on social action herself. To her, impact is more important than recognition. She is also pursuing documentary filmmaking as medium of telling stories of those who are often ignored, and raising awareness regarding our environment.
