Millennium Fellowship Project: Environmental Justice Through Law

"Environmental Justice Through Law" is a student-led research and publication initiative aimed at bridging the gap between environmental rights and their enforcement.
From August to December 2025, by analyzing at least five major environmental challenges in India-such as toxic waste dumping, industrial pollution, and biodiversity loss-through legal research and can have expert interviews with lawyers, activists, and policymakers. The findings can be compiled into one policy brief recommending actionable legal reforms and five multilingual digital guides in English and two regional languages, explaining environmental rights and remedies in simple terms. These resources can be distributed online and through partner NGOs to reach at least 350- 500 individuals, complemented by a four-week social media campaign to raise awareness and share practical legal tips. By focusing on research, publication, and digital outreach, this project advances SDG 13 (Climate Action), SDG 15 (Life on Land), and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) while upholding UNAI Principle 9 (Commitment to Sustainability).

About the Millennium Fellow

Fueled by a lifelong love for nature, Periyanayagi Bibiana Louis is a fourth-year B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) student at Christ (Deemed to be University), Delhi NCR, and a proud NCC cadet. Born in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, and now based in Delhi NCR, she has witnessed since childhood the damage environmental degradation inflicts on communities, inspiring her to merge legal expertise with social welfare. From leading school nature club initiatives to NCC-led cleanliness drives, her journey reflects dedication to environmental justice. Her published work, From Dumping Grounds to Justice, stands as a testament to her unwavering commitment to safeguarding the environment. Bibiana aspires to advance the Sustainable Development Goals through impactful legal advocacy and community-led change.
