Millennium Fellowship Project: Peer Support for Student Stress

Peer Support for Student Stress is a student-led initiative designed to create safe and accessible emotional support systems within Christ (Deemed to be University), Delhi NCR. The project responds to the growing need for compassionate spaces where students can openly discuss their stress and emotional challenges without fear, stigma or judgment.
Many students struggle silently with academic pressure, social expectations, financial worries and uncertainty about the future. Although professional counseling is available, a number of students hesitate to seek help due to fear of being judged or not knowing how to express what they feel. This project bridges that gap by empowering peers to support one another in simple, human and meaningful ways.
The initiative has three main components. The first is training peer supporters in active listening, empathy, confidentiality and ethical communication. The second is conducting weekly Stress Relief Circles, which are informal, comforting gatherings where students can share their thoughts or simply sit with others who understand their experiences. These circles encourage openness and help reduce feelings of isolation. The third component is creating a digital support platform that offers mental health resources and allows students to connect with peer supporters when in-person interaction feels difficult.
The project aligns with SDG 3 by promoting emotional well-being and with SDG 4 by helping students engage more fully in their educational experience. Its early impact is visible in the growing willingness of students to talk about stress, increased participation in support circles and a noticeable shift in campus culture toward empathy and openness.
At its core, Peer Support for Student Stress stands on a simple belief: no student should feel alone in what they are going through. The project builds community through listening, understanding and shared human experience, ensuring that every student has a space where they feel seen and supported.
