" " I am excited to join this program as it offers a unique platform of transforming thoughts into matter, ideas into solutions. The aims and ethos of the Millennium Fellowship align with my mission of combining legal know-hows with sustainable interventions and community engagement. I especially advocate for the empowerment of women. In the words of Rune Lazuli: Like stars, women can survive in the darkest of places. I strive to refine my project for their benefit and the benefit of the community as women are the home that houses it. I aim to learn from diverse perspectives, collaborate with like-minded change makers and create society where we not only survive, but thrive." "

Millennium Fellowship Project: STRENGTHENING FAMILIES: ERADICATING DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

The project is about helping women who were or are victims of domestic violence by providing a hands on approach at grassroot levels which are the communities. Many women, especially in developing countries like Kenya, suffer in violent households simply due to socio-economic disparities, limited legal support and ingrained cultural norms. The project aims to tackle all these reasons via community based approaches. Examples are: preventative measures and awareness and support and empowerment. It shall provide intervention, preventive and support mechanisms with the aid of community health workers and institutions and legal aid providers.
