" "I have always believed that meaningful change begins with compassion and small, intentional actions. The Millennium Fellowship offers a space to connect with others who share this belief and to transform ideas into impact. I am excited to grow through this journey and contribute my voice to building a more equitable and inclusive world." "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Bridging Forward
To be honest, I’i've always been part of this non-traditional students community--people who likely wouldn’t be where we are today without the help of others and those rare, fleeting opportunities. Around me are students who have fought hard to make it to university: an au pair trying to support himself, immigrant siblings in their 40s, a woman recovering from mental health struggles. There are many others in the same situation striving to find a way in, and I want to build something that makes it easier. So this project is designed to help non-traditional students access higher education, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds, including low-income, first-generation, immigrants, and international students. It’ll offer a platform where they can get real support on preparing and applying to school, transferring credits, finding scholarships, and balancing family/work with their studies. Specifically, information will be provided about different programs (like Columbia GS), funding options (such as New York State’s HEOP), and supportive organizations (like ANTSHE). On top of that, the project will connect them with mentors who’i've been through similar journeys and offer workshops to guide them along the way. The goal is simple: make higher education a lot more possible to non-traditional students.
